Our schools feature free WiFi, computer lounges, large common areas, and an onsite snack bar where every morning the coffee and tea are piping hot and free. Every classroom is equipped with comfortable chairs and tables, over-sized whiteboards, and audio-video equipment. All COSI schools always have very nice indoor and outdoor areas and it’s a perfect meeting place for everyone to get to know each other, to plan activities, and to practice your Spanish.

Airport Pick-up

Airport pick-up is included in every COSI program. No matter what time you arrive at the airport, we will be there waiting for you! Look for the COSI driver who’s always carrying a yellow smiley-face flag.  😀

The COSI driver takes each participant to their host family, hotel, hostel, or apartment; and you receive our Welcome Folder with all the information you need regarding your orientation, your accommodations, and your program.

If you are studying with COSI in Manuel Antonio, you should fly into the San Jose Airport. Our driver meets you there. You spend one night in San Jose and then travel to Manuel Antonio by public bus the next day. COSI arranges everything for your one-night stay in San Jose, either with a host family or in a hotel. Buses leave San Jose every day at 6 AM, 12 PM, and 6 PM. It is approximately 3 hours by bus to Manuel Antonio. The COSI team buys your bus tickets in advance and we make sure you get on the bus safely—we handle everything! Note that it’s recommended participants arrive in San Jose on or before the Saturday prior to the start of classes.

Cultural Programs:

At COSI, we like to create opportunities for intercultural exchange where people can interact and learn from each other. Check our weekly events calendar with things going on both inside the school and around town. Free salsa classes and free cooking lessons are scheduled every week.

We also strongly encourage you to take part in our Tandem Conversation Program, which is a free language and cultural exchange. In the Tandem Program, the COSI team matches up international Spanish learners (like you) and local English learners (Costa Ricans) who want to meet new friends and develop their speaking skills. Conversations are open and friendly and allow you and your tandem partner to move forward with your language skills by learning from each other.

Money can be exchanged at the San Jose Airport upon arrival, but these services do not offer you the best rate. We recommend only changing approximately $50 to cover immediate expenses during your first 24 to 48 hours. After your orientation, you will receive a walking tour of the surrounding area and we show you banks where you will be able to exchange larger amounts of money, as well as point out the ATMs available right in our neighborhood.

Host Families

Home stays with local Costa Rican families are the most popular type of accommodations we offer. Home stays are all with pre-approved families and include breakfast and dinner seven days per week. You can elect to have a shared room or private room. Most home stays only offer shared bathrooms, but private rooms with ensuite or private bathrooms are available for an additional charge, but availability is limited.

When staying with a host family, you are free to come and go as you please, but it’s important that you respect the routine and rules of the family. All host families are within walking distance (10 to 25 minutes) or within a 5- to10-minute taxi/bus ride from the COSI Spanish School.

COSI offers a limited number of comfortable, fully-furnished private apartments for students who prefer more privacy and independence. Apartments come with equipped kitchens, internet access, cable TV, and all utilities are included. Our apartments are centrally located and within easy walking distance or a short taxi/bus ride to the COSI school.

We offer a wide variety of hotels right near our schools. The COSI team makes all the arrangements necessary at the best prices available. Please note that busy season in Costa Rica is from December to April. During this time, hotel reservations should be made well in advance.

More basic and inexpensive housing is also available at local hostels, where you can choose from shared or private rooms.

The COSI team is always happy to help students with booking tours, car rentals, and making other travel reservations while you are in Costa Rica—and there are many options for traveling on the weekends and  after classes.
