Costa Rica Summer Camp

The Spanish Camp program at COSI is designed to prepare young people for today’s global society. Spanish Camp develops the skills necessary to communicate and function comfortably in the Spanish language and within the larger global community.

Since 1994, COSI’s Spanish Camp has provided a unique combination of education, community service, sports, and tourism. Spanish Camp is an experience students never forget!

There is no better way to learn Spanish than a full-immersion experience and practicing your language skills with native speakers. Our Native Spanish curriculum integrates Spanish into all aspects of the Spanish Camp program, including community service, sports, and cultural activities. Our unique combination of daily Spanish classes and 3 optional Tracks quickly moves beginners from the basics to intermediate and advanced levels of Spanish. The program tracks at Spanish Camp include:

Traditional COSI Camp

The traditional COSI camp option offers campers a great cultural and educational experience. Campers receive 3 hours of Spanish classes per day before heading out to different cultural and tour activities in the afternoon. Activities include museum visits, national park tours, creative workshops, recreational games, and more. Each activity is designed to engage campers and keep them active, while providing cultural immersion and language practice.

Service Learning

The Service Learning Track moves campers way beyond the classroom and into community service projects where campers are fully immersed in a volunteer abroad experience. This expands your understanding of life in Costa Rica and develops a real sense of giving back and helping people and communities in need. Campers must be at least 15 years of age to participate in the Service Learning Track.

Service learning projects include:

− Working with Kids
− Construction

Sports

The Sports Track takes campers to a whole new level of international sports! Campers study Spanish for 3 hours every morning and then move on to top-level sports instruction for 3-4 hours every afternoon. The sports track develops a great deal of self-confidence and builds skills as campers learn and compete at a whole new level.

Sports track options include:

− Soccer (fútbol)
− Scuba diving certification (PADI)

In the afternoon, you join other students from around the world for Tours, Sports, or Service Learning. As residents of Costa Rica, local students have the option to participate in the camp as a traditional overnight or as a day camp.
