The Costa Rica Spanish Institute (COSI) has been teaching Spanish to students from all over the world since 1994.

Our programs offer the unique possibility of studying in San Jose or on the Pacific Coast at Manuel Antonio Beach, near the Manuel Antonio National Park. These convenient locations offer access to a wide range of destinations, things to do and great places to visit in Costa Rica.

Classes are kept small, with a maximum of 8 students, to provide personal attention and a cozy atmosphere. We offer flexible start dates with classes beginning every Monday year-round. The teachers at COSI are experts at teaching Spanish to students of all levels. We have an excellent team of educated professionals with Masters Degrees and many are trained in OPI-ACTFL testing.

At COSI, we offer various cultural activities and many travel, tour, and cultural options to add on to your Spanish program. We also organize excellent volunteer abroad and international internship placements via our sister organization Maximo Nivel.

Since its establishment, COSI has developed professional relationships with many different universities that continue to send students to study abroad.

Why Costa Rica?

Costa Rica is a peaceful country and is the commercial and cultural center of Central America. We are a small country with a population of just four million people. Our country has no army—the military was disbanded in 1948 and our government has made education and healthcare two of its most important priorities. Costa Rica’s literacy rate is 97%, which is among the highest in the developing world. 33% of Costa Rica’s land is devoted to national parks and conservation reserves. Costa Rica has an incredible variety of micro climates, vegetation, wildlife and topography. The climate of San Jose, the capital city, is pleasing to most people and ranges from 22º – 32º C (72º – 90ºF). Visitors can enjoy many activities such as hiking in rainforests and mountains, going to the Caribbean or the Pacific beaches, visiting active volcanoes, bathing in hot springs, white water rafting, cruising to islands, canopy zip lining, scuba diving and much more.
